An artist not in your range of music taste, Falk I think he's like a Christian rock artist; correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I don't particularily mind Christian rock. In fact, I like some of them, including Steven Curtis Chapman. But I don't like hard rock. But what I really appreciate, love, and respect is classical music (jazz, anyone?). Just to make my position clear ;D

I guess I sorda kinda agree with you. Sometimes though (and this is probably the catholic coming out), having bands like Piller screaming JESUS!!!!!!! in a way that makes you clutch you vocal cords in agony just seems a little weird. The Beatles are still the best. "The Magical Mystery tour is coming to take you away..."

I know, I find it somewhat hard to appreciate the musicality of it all ;D I prefer Rachmanninoff.

I would not consider Chapman rock, he is comtemperary and I consider all contemperary to be kind of boring, IMO.
Yes, Hawk Nelson is a rock band, more punk rock. There songs do have a lot of meaning. I don't like pure screaming, but some hard rock is good.

I don't know, I was never a HUGE fan of Rachmaninoff. I've never even tried playing his songs on the piano, my hand would probably just snap in half. I still kinda like him though.
I won't listen to rap, or opera, but anything in between is OK.
Oh, and I just started Organ lessons! Huzzah! Its a lot of fun. You feel like you wield a lot of power. Push down on the key, and something in the back of the church makes a noise, ahhh. Power (of course it does help that I think I'm playing on the biggest organ in Tulsa).

Tell me about it. The only problem is most of my playing has to be at home, where we have a free organ (we got what we paid for ).

I recently got a Christian CD for Christmas (WOW #1's: 31 of the greatest Christian hits of all-time). On it, there is a song by dcTalk ("Jesus Freak," I guess it was pretty popular). It's a rock song that pretty much talks about a couple of people that got killed for their beliefs (John the Baptist) and about people who got ridiculed for following Jesus (thus the name "Jesus Freak"). I really like the song now that I've listened to it for a while, although I thought it was very weird at first.
Anyone else heard that song?

I can take or leave Christian rock- I do not believe it had a place in services, however.

It has a place in some Christian services - people should do whatever it takes to bring non-Christians to church and they shoud proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in every way possible.

My church does sing the "old" songs. Amazing Grace, I'll Fly Away, and all those good songs, we however have alter call. during that when everyone is praying our worship team does sing newer Christian songs. They aren't like singing "Jesus Freak' or anything but more like Jeff Deyo and softer worship music. IMO people who are against anything but hynms are against change. Does anyone here honestly think only some Christian music is acceptable to God? Do you think he would be upset because someone sung a new song of worship to him instead of hymns?

Well put, Chocolate Bar. Anything is acceptable to God so long as it retains the focus on Him, and not anything else.

Gyn ans I were at a church Sunday, and the youth pastor spoke on Music. It was very intresting, he covered the orgin of music, as well as teen's problems with music. It's estimated that teens spend 4-5 hours per day "actively" listening to music. Music is a very powerful tool, and it is also very addicting, even Christian music. He pointed out that often times we listen to music, Christian or not, as a distraction or just cuz we feel like we need to have that musci going! He said it was wrong because Music was created by God to sing praise to God, and when we are not using music to praise God we're using it to please oursleves. I'm not saying I agree with everything he said, but there are some intresting points made there that I had never really considered.
Also, he made a very good statement : Music is to be written by people TO God (as it was in the Bible), not to men ABOUT God. Some groups are just out there to make a buck and it can be rather hard to tell the differnce at times.

ok personally I love Christian rock, mostly the ones with a good meaning and spiritual influence. Hawk Nelson includes both of those really well as well as Switchfoot and DC Talk. I love Jesus Freaks, and Colored People, but my fav from DC Talk is What if I Stumble. It has a heart opener beginning where a guy tells about the #1 reason for aethiesm (u need to hear it!)
