Never heard of any of 'em, either. I'm not too fond, nor familiar, with techno music and dance music. It's just not that big around here.

Hip-hop, however, is wildly popular in the US, and is probably the most popular genre in America. Just take a look at Billboard.com's Hot 100! I, personally, don't like it, though.

Is this dance music that you listen to American in origin, or is it more Euro?

The dance-music scene is dominated by european artists. Most famous DJ's come from Germany, the UK and the Netherlands. There are (of course) american producers and DJ's, but they are less well-known.
