What we should be seeking in our Christian life as teens is not populairty, fun times, or entertainment, but rather wisdom. The Bible has clearly outlined some things about wisdom. The book of Proverbs was written by Solomon specifically to young people. In the first 4 chapters of the book, we see the phrase " My son," used constantly. The Proverbs give godly advice on how to deal with the 4 main "problem zones" in our life - health, finances, relationships, and youself.
Solomon gives very detailed instructions about how we should live our teenaged lives and what we should want to do during them. Here is a few examples. Proverbs 4:5, " Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth."
vs 7. " Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom, and with all thy getting get understanding."
vs. 13," Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life."
As teens, most of us were been brought up in a Christian family and faithfully attended Sunday School
since we can't remembre when. We have alot of knowlege of the Bible and of Biblical things. We could recite all the famous Bible stories backwards and then some. We could quote alot of verses too. But what we don't have is what we need the most - wisdom. In his book Solomon is continually telling his son to "get wisdom."
What is it like to be wise? The dictionary defines it as, "having or exhibiting a capacity for discernment and the intelligent application of knowledge."
So then, how do you get wisdom? The answer shoudl be pretty simple for some of you. Draw closer to God. Read his word ( and, might I add, especially the Proverbs.). Most importantly, do what Solomon did. Ask for it. Here is a great verse that is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
James 1:5," If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally. and upbraideth not ( this word means "to scold"); and it shall be given him."
Simple as that. We as teenagers need to be asking God for this. Don't listen to the old myth,"Well wisdom comes as you get older." No! Look at Solomon. It didn't take him years of expirience to become the wisest man on earth. He just had a hunger for it, and he asked it of God.
So today and every day, make it a point to ask God for wisdom. Seek after her with all your heart. And I can promise you, you will be wiser for it!
The end
PS. sorry about that bad pun! ;D
