Do you listen to secular music? I personally listen to Christian bands only. Is it wrong to listen to secular music? The thing I don't like is that all the bands are on drugs and they cuss constantly.
Your thoughts:

I don't listen to secular music. I do think their is a line though. I do think there is secular music out their that is fine, there are bad songs that Christians should avoid though.

Most of the music I listen to is secular, as there is very little Christian dance music. There IS Christian dance-music but it's still very young (and I'm participating in it ) Most dance music is instrumental or with very simple lyrics that don't go very deep, so the difference between Christian and secular dance music is very hard to find. Unless of course you listen to some of the lyrics. Reference: This is a link to a site with lyrics from trance music

The only time I really like listen to secular music is Christmastime or in Borders when I'm bored. LOL. But my dad does listen to cowboy music from the '50s....if that counts....

I mostly stick with Christian, but there are many secular songs that have no bad lyrics ( alot of country songs are decent) but there are alot that do have bad lyrics, so for me personally, i stick to christian songs.

Christian music has became my genre of choice, but I do find myself listening to a little country (the newer stuff, not Hank Williams or whatever) and some mainstream secular music (90's and Now type music), but not that often. I'd say that close to 95% of my music listening is Christian. There are just too many bad lyrics out there in almost any genre that isn't Christian.

I try to contain my listening to only Christian music, not that there is anything bad with secular music, but I think Christian music is pretty good so if they're is a Christian undertone in it that's a definite plus! Also if I do find myself listening to secular music, I have to say 80's music is the stuff to listen to.......lol

I only have Chritian CDs...I think they can be classified as that. I don't know if their genre is actually "Christian" but the lyrcis are not bad. I think that as long as the lyrics are clean, then you can listen to any music. I don't have really any big name secular bands. I listen to some big name secular bands at school. Some of the bands I like the beats, but listening to them again and again I don't think I will feel right.

Secular music in itself can never be considered wrong to listen to simply for the sake of its being secular. Look at classical music. In my whole lifetime I have never (or VERY rarely) heard a single piece that you could classify as "wrong" to listen to, as it has no lyrics (except for opera, and I don't listen to that very often).

Personally, I listen to just about anything- but there is a line drawn in the sand.

When people start singing about killing and hurting people, then the line is drawn.

I do, when the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts it on the radio every week. I've been to a showing of La Traviata by Verdi once, and I'd love to go see another one. You also get to wear a tuxedo when you go! ;D

They might not talk directly about God, but the lyrics are not bad. I think I have 1 song by each of them. I have the song Studying Politics by Emery which is pretty good. I am pretty sure they are Christian because on a Christian radio station they play those groups.

How could it be a sin? that's CRAZY. I love christian music. But I like regular old music too. ne ways that was just my ramblin for the day.

well, i think God not only gave us music to enjoy, but the most important thing, he gave it to praise him. I think that should be the purpose of our music.

I certainly think that, if you've got a gift in music, you should recognize God in your music, but I don't think that Christian music is the only type of music that you have to produce or listen to. If the lyrics are decent and the themes are OK, then secular music is alright to listen to, IMHO. If they start cussing and talking about sinful stuff, then I say cut it out.
