I think Switchfoot is okay. I love Thousand Foot Krutch. I am leaning now towards harder rock, like Staple, Demon Hunter, POD, Still Remains and others. Switchfoot IMO is too soft. Demon Hunter scares the LIFE out of me..... I was in a music store and popped in their album and I got "BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH" Yeah, NOT my kind of music....I like being able to understand the words.

I would rather they not yell swear words because I will not listen to them. It took me a while to get used to them, but the music really pumps you up. The insturments are good and the actual signing on some hard rock groups is pretty good. I also like regular rock like TFK, Skillet, Pillar, Spoken. I also like rap. Soft rock, like Switchfoot kind of bore me.

I don't like hard rock in any genre, really. I guess if they're going to yell, though, they might as well yell about God and Jesus. I guess there's nothing bad about that; as long as the lyrics are clean, I wouldn't say it's evil music. I personally, however, do not like hard rock and metal where they scream and yell like that.

I don't really like it when people say "music" as in the sound, is evil. How can sound be evil? All is it is beats. They don't cuss or whatever. The words or lyrics can be evil. I just get music that does not talk about bad things. They might not be Christian, but they are not bad. I think as long as it is not bad, then nothing is wrong with it.

Here's some more info on "The Fatal Wound," though I'm not sure how much it helps: www.brokenmasterpieces.com/archives/001820.htmlHere's another one that discusses Switchfoot in general, as well as "The Fatal Wound": www.brokenmasterpieces.com/archives/001821.htmlThese blogs, or articles, or whatever they are, present several theories on the song, most notably that the song is a representation of Jesus and the thief on the cross (you mentioned that earlier, TD). These links still leave a question in my mind as to the real meaning of the song, though, and if it does in fact deal with suicide. I was considering purchasing Nothing is Sound, but this song's veiled meaning and (possibly) suicidal overtones are making me reconsider. There is nothing of this nature on The Beautiful Letdown.

oh dude don't let that song stop u from Nothing Is Sound!!! its a great cd and the title of the album proves it's not about suicidal overtones! The whole point of Nothing Is Sound is to show that nothing can describe their happiness. One of the best songs i think in that album is "Happy Is A Yuppie Word" which basically means Happy is too mediocre of a word to describe their joy.
I'm really not sure why they sing "The Fatal Wound" but by no means let that stop you from this amazing cd!

Well, I ended up buying Nothing Is Sound. I really like it. "Lonely Nation" is probably my favorite track. I also like "Happy Is a Yuppie Word," Titanian.
The album is kind of downcast, but if you look beyond the surface meaning of the lyrics, there's a lot of hope and a lot of Christian undertones to the songs. Even "The Fatal Wound" could have Christian undertones, as I've recently read a post by someone on one of those websites (in my above post) that drew connections between the song and Jesus's death.
Overall, it's a good album that, in addition to The Beautiful Letdown, may just have made Switchfoot my favorite group in Christian music.

oh yeah The Beautiful Letdown is an amazing cd also! Meant to Live is a great song (it also happens to be my ringtone ) and another great song from that album is Dare To Move, even though that song was first done in an earlier album.........

Yeah, I think "Dare You to Move" appeared on Switchfoot's New Way To Be Human. It might have appeared earlier, I'm not sure.
"Meant To Live" is my second favorite song overall, but is a very, very close second. The opening guitar solo is just awesome! It kicks off the album like no other song could. Some of my other favorites from Letdown include "This Is Your Life," "Dare You To Move," and "Ammunition." "Gone" is pretty good, too. It's different than all the rest of their songs.
I think that Nothing Is Sound is a little bit harder as far as loudness and rock goes, but neither of their albums strikes me as particularly "heavy metal." They can rock if they want, but they aren't wild. I like it.

Here's an update on Switchfoot: They're preparing to release their next album, titled Oh! Gravity, on December 26th. They've said that it's supposed to have a "harder rock edge" to it.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm eagerly awaiting this one...

No kidding! I, a member of their fan club, got to hear one of their new singles, "daylight to daybreak" or something like that. It's good! I hope it's ROCKIER, baby! ;D

LOL Somebody's getting psyched! On paper, this album should satisfy your desire for something "rockier" (idk if that's a real word, but it sounds good ). I'm looking for something in the vein of "Politicians" off Nothing Is Sound, cause that seemed like a harder rock track. I'm assuming the first radio single will be titled "Dirty Second Hands" b/c that's the first track that iTunes will be selling, starting Sept. 26. Oh, and here's the album cover, if you're interested (they're unveiling it piece-by-piece on switchfoot.com, but on another site I found some people who had posted the entire image):

Switchfoot. Eh, so-so. Not my style. Nothing is Sound is a good song. I don't remember what was on the rest of the album. My funny switchfoot story: this guy I used to like was taking a quiz, and he put down a switchfoot song that was supposed to describe me. It was edge of my seat. "Cause I can't forget your name, forget your name, no I can't forget you girl!" :-D

Switchfoot is probably one of the only Chritian rock groups that have a solid sound - I mean, they're not amazingly talented like your average Classic Rock group, but they're pretty good. I like Dare You To Move and On Fire. Some of their songs are very uncreative (instrumentally) though. I mean, Beautiflu Letdown, for example, has amazing lyrics, but NO instrumentals to back up the mesage - I can't stand listening to it. I sounds like a Bob Dylan song. lol

I thought that "The Beautiful Letdown" had a kind of different sound to it, especially with the weird drums that they play in the opening. I guess it's not groundbreaking, but I don't think that that song is just out of a box. The thing I really like about Switchfoot is their lyrics. Jon Foreman is a truly gifted songwriter. They definitely make you think, but they deal with spiritual themes. BTW, if anyone's interested, you can hear one of the songs off of Oh! Gravity here. It's called "Dirty Second Hands." It sort of reminds me of some of their earlier stuff, with a little bit of a harder rock edge. I also found a video where Switchfoot performs what will be the lead single off their next album, "Oh Gravity," live: www.fox6.com/mediacenter/default.aspx?videoId=227392@video.fox6.com. To see it, just wait for the little video player to load. I like it!

Mh, not bad.... Not amazing, either. The lyrics are a little repetitive.

"Stars" is a great song. Have you heard their new album, Oh! Gravity? I think it's a pretty good album- a lot of catchy songs. My personal favorites are "Awakening", "Head Over Heels (In This Life)", and "Dirty Second Hands." However, I think that Nothing Is Sound is their finest. In addition to "Stars", there were excellent songs such as "Lonely Nation" (a great song), "Easier Than Love", and a host of other very good tracks.
