Bush is a good president, I have to admit. He hasn't got the best PR, however, and he's not as conservative (ideologically or fiscally) as I'd like. In his annual Christmas card greeting he has sent to lots of people, he wishes everyone "happy holidays" with no mention of Christmas. It's a bit of a let-down to see our president sink to this. Oh well. I hope he comes to his senses and senses the need to keep America on the right track in every way possible.
Please don't give me karma points off for this; if I'm erring in my portrayal of Bush I'm erring on the conservative side ;D

Yeah, he probably should have said "Merry Christmas"....but as President of the entire United States, I don't know if it was totally wrong for him to say Happy Holidays.

Hmm, yes, he probably figured it would be better to say Happy Holidays. He's in his last term though, and I think he should stand up for Christmas.

I feel the same way about Bush. I think he needs to stick to his guns a little more rather than try to make people happy as he seems to do on social issues.

Personally if he did it to make other people happy, and went against his beliefs that would make him a hypocrite. Which is what Bush is begining to be... ANd it is seriously annoying me! HE needs to grow a spine! There I said it! I am a conservative Republican, but who better to see our own President's flaws? He has been vague about every aspect of the Iraqi War. At times we don't know if we're at WAR or at PEACE. I'm begining to wonder if we'll ever finish this dumb war. We are really police man now. I was all for war after 9/11 and I didn't mind it up until a few months ago to be most truthful. He is just really annoying me!

I don't think it was wrong because he is the President of ALL the United States. HOw would you guys feel if we had a Jewish President and he wished people a Happy Hanakkuh in his cards? Different stores saying Happy Holidays is a different matter. 85% of people going to Target or Kohls (for an example) arte there to by Christmas presidents. In that instance. it is wrong to give Christmas the cold shoulder. This isn't wrong though. Christians (and people who celebrate Christmas but aren't Christians) aren't the only people that recieve these cards. He couldn't just ignore their believes could he?

If he's sending out "Christmas cards," which are pretty much in vogue throughout the majority of American households, then I wouldn't think that it would be all that bad to say the dreadful "Merry Christmas." If he really wanted to be popular, he could add a "Happy Holidays" in there along with the "Merry Christmas," but still, Christmas is the occasion for his sending the cards, correct? I don't know of any Presidents who have sent Hanukkah (sp.?) or Kwanzaa cards to people, and what harm is there in acknowledging a federal holiday?
I wouldn't care if a Jewish President sent me a "Happy Hanukkah" card, as a Christian. I'd basically just ignore the Hanukkah part.

wow, i cant believe what im hearing(seeing)...this is odd coming from GDl...
As for Happy Holidays, this is a FREE nation where all can believe whatever they want. I would prefer them all to believe in god, but sometimes you cant just go and make everyone a christian, so then you must accept who they are and what they believe.

But then again, the way this thing is going, sooner or later we are going to be denied the FREEdom to say "Merry Christmas" publically. unless we make a stand.

lol Siko. Yeah Bush has began to erk me... Come on. Look what the Iraq war is accomplishing. Democracy for all Iraqis. Freedom from oppression. There's so much more - we just get tired of it when it seems to take too long.

yes, we should feel lucky. alot of americans think we have it bad, that this war is taking so long but we aren't the ones living in fear that a car bomb will kill us or our family members. we don't have to worry about a terrorist walking into our town and detonating a bomb. so for all the people who are getting upset with the war, you really need to look at the whole picture and realize that you have the easy part compared to the Iraqis.

And think how it was so much worse before America came. You couldn't say anything the government didn't want you to say, anyone could be put into prison and tortured, and there was so much oppression. We should think of this war in less selfish terms.

We are working to get the Iraqi's to have their own security force - "helping them help themselves", to use a cliche.
